What's inside

  • Robots around us: spot the robots at home, in factories and in hospitals
  • Parts of a robot: sensors, brain and motors, explained with pictures
  • A design page to draw your own robot
  • Step-by-step build guide using recycled boxes

Skills your child practises

  • Design thinking
  • Following instructions
  • Early engineering ideas
  • Creativity

How to use it at home

  • Collect empty boxes, toilet rolls and bottle caps a week before you start.
  • Let your child make the design choices. The grown-up's job is cutting and gluing safely.
  • Ask your child to explain what each part of their robot does.

Printing tips

  • Print on A4 paper at 100% (actual size), not 'fit to page'.
  • Black-and-white printing is fine; children will add the colour.
  • Slip pages into a plastic sleeve and use a whiteboard marker to reuse them many times.
