What's inside

  • A page for each everyday consonant, from ක, ග, ච and ජ through to ස, හ and ළ
  • A big outlined letter to colour, with a picture word such as කපුටා, පූසා and සමනලයා
  • Grey letters to trace, then empty boxes for independent writing
  • A review page and a matching page that pairs letters with pictures
  • A certificate page to colour in when the book is finished

Skills your child practises

  • Letter formation
  • Visual discrimination between similar letters such as ප and ය
  • Fine motor control
  • Confidence in writing alone

How to use it at home

  • Finish the vowels book first, or make sure your child can already trace simple lines and curves.
  • Point out letters that look alike, for example ප and ය or ව and ච, and ask your child to spot the difference.
  • Keep finished pages in a folder so your child can see how much they have improved.

Printing tips

  • Print on A4 paper at 100% (actual size), not 'fit to page'.
  • Black-and-white printing is fine; children will add the colour.
  • Slip pages into a plastic sleeve and use a whiteboard marker to reuse them many times.
